How to Experience Disney Magic at Home
Updated: Oct 13, 2020
When 2020 started I had high hopes for this year. So many fun family trips planned, kids sports to attend, my beloved Oregon Ducks girls basketball team was killing it on the basketball court.
Then the coronavirus hit. And our lives will never be the same.
School is cancelled for weeks. No sports at any level. We have to be socially distant from those we love for health and safety. Travel plans cancelled. Disney parks are closed. Disney Cruise Line has temporarily ceased operations. And Adventures by Disney trips are on hold.
These are tough times for sure.
But I'm committed to finding the good in every day, despite all the scary stuff going on with COVID-19 (see highly personal blog post here).
And Disney magic still abounds!
There are many amazing ways you can experience Disney magic right now, right from home.
Here is a list of fun Disney related activities, resources, and entertainment available online to help us all cope with being quarantined at home for whoever knows how long.
Give some of these a try and comment to let me know how it goes.
One of my favorite activities on the Disney Cruise ships, now online! Check out this Disney Parks Blog for all the details.
Have an aspiring imaginer in the family? They will love this free online program on Khan Academy. According to Disney Parks Blog it “is a series of interactive lessons in theme park design and engineering, designed to give a behind-the-scenes peek into Imagineering’s development process.”
Your favorite iconic group are bringing a little Disneyland Magic right to your living room. They are even taking requests!
Bob Jackson is a Disney World entertainment icon. (My words, not official.) He’s been entertaining guests for years at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort Riverside. You can now catch him live at home on Facebook.
Friends of the Disney family are popping up on the Disney PhotoPass Facebook page to read some of their favorite stories. So far John Stamos, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jason George and more have done a reading.
Follow Josh Gad on Twitter so you can catch him reading children’s books live. Olaf speaking to you live every night? Yes please!
This is not a new blog, but if you haven’t discovered it before now is the perfect time. The Disney Family blog has tons of crafts, activities, recipes and more to help you pass the time at home with your kiddos.
New Disney Movies Released on Digital
With the coronavirus closing theaters, Disney did us all a solid and digitally released some of its latest blockbusters early:
OnWard available now for digital download. On Disney+ April 3, 2020.
Frozen 2 available now on Disney+, three months earlier than planned.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker now available for digital purchase.
Note: Trolls World Tour will also be digitally available April 10th. Not Disney, but still awesome.
Watch your favorite Disney theme park rides on YouTube. This is normally something I recommend doing with your kids before heading to the parks. But no reason not to do it just for fun!
You can also do the same for your favorite parades and nighttime shows. I’ve been watching Magic Kingdom’s nighttime fireworks show, Happily Ever After on repeat. Perhaps with a tear or two.
If more things pop up, I'll update this list. So Bookmark this page and keep checking back for more at home activities.
Stay safe and healthy everyone!
